The first step is to come to a mutual understanding about what questions need answering through testing. For example, questions might include “Why is Kafayat doing so poorly in school,” and “Why is Adam always getting in trouble?” “do I have Bipolar Disorder?” or “Does my child have ADHD?” Once we know the questions, we can start gathering the information needed to answer them.

There are many methods used to gather information for psychological testing. They include giving standardized psychological tests and questionnaires, neuropsychological testing, getting information about a person’s physical and intellectual development, getting the perspectives of several different people about what strengths and what difficulties a person is having, and reviewing any records of any past psychological testing or treatment. Documents such as report cards, workplace evaluations, and others will also be reviewed (if available). The psychologist will also observe the person during the course of the evaluation to find clues regarding their strengths and weaknesses.

Once the information is gathered, the psychologist will score and interpret the data and come to conclusions about the diagnoses. They will write a report that details the results of each test and a conclusion about the diagnosis. The psychologist will then set up a time to go over the report and answer any questions you have about the findings. Individualized treatment recommendations may be a part of the report, and these can also be discussed during the feedback session. The psychologist wants you to understand how they came to the conclusions they did and will gladly address any questions or concerns.

The initial assessment costs #45.000 and is used to understand the situation, discuss the needs of the person, and determine what type of testing is needed. A comprehensive psychological assessment usually takes 20-25 hours of the psychologist’s time to complete and costs #800,000 to #1,500,000. This fee does include the feedback session.

How Much Will Testing Cost?

Remember -

A thorough assessment encompasses various potential sources of challenges, including evaluations for depression, anxiety, ADHD, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, addiction, trauma, personality traits, and environmental influences (such as home or school environment). This approach not only enables accurate diagnoses but also allows for the exclusion of other underlying issues. Understanding the coexistence of multiple conditions is crucial, as individuals diagnosed with depression often have a higher likelihood of concurrent disorders like anxiety or behavioural problems. Identifying present and absent factors enables tailored recommendations for the most effective and efficient treatments.

Only a comprehensive evaluation can furnish such comprehensive insights. In contrast, screenings focus on specific diagnoses, determining their presence or absence. While screenings suffice in particular scenarios—for instance, when verifying a childhood ADHD diagnosis for an adult's insurance purposes—they cannot definitively rule out alternative causes of symptoms. Although comprehensive evaluations require more time and expense, they offer unmatched clarity. Your psychologist will guide you through this decision-making process, ensuring you choose the most suitable approach for your situation.
